WILD stands for wake-initiated lucid dream. It is the process of letting your body fall asleep while remaining conscience and then letting your mind enter the dream when you reach the REM stages of sleep. To start off get yourself confortable in your bed and lie preferably on your back with your arms in a confortable position by your sides or on your chest
Now you have to lie there with your eyes closed and perfectly still. this is very important that you do not move in the slightest for any reason, it will slow the induction – this may take a while when first starting out to get to the next stage
now just relax your body totally and relax your mind. don’t fall asleep though. remain conscience but perfectly still and relax your body further, try imagining falling or spinning around really fast.
Eventually your body will start to feal heavier and stiffen up slightly as you are falling asleep. This is a natual process of sleep and it happens every night. Your body goes into what is known as sleep paralysis. Where your body stiffens up so you cannot move it and your heart beat will increase rapidly. It has been speculated that this could be to stop you acting out your dreams in real life whilst you are sleeping.
As your body is shutting down for the night now and you are going into sleep paralysis, you may feel some wierd sensations, like pins and needles, or electricity through your body. Some people have reported jolts and lurches, but these are all nothing to worry about. Remember this happens everynight and you sleep through it. It is just that now you are intentionaly trying to stay consicence through the process. You may feel your body shake, this is normal. It isnt shaking in real life, it is just a sensation that feels real.
Hypnagogic imagery and sound can start happening aswell. Hypnagogic imagery is the imagery you see behind your closed eyelids when you are imagining something and the sounds are also a creation of your mind. This imagery could be of allsorts. It will be similar to daydreams, but try not to focus too much on the imagery and get drawn into it and fall alseep. Also don’t be scared of the sounds. You may hear people talking, it could be parents or friends and you may think they are in the room and wake up to see.(although this may take a while while in sleep paralysis). Just remember they are not really there and whatever you do, to stay focussed. You should still relax your body while thinking about being lucid and remaining concience.
For some people this process may be exhilarating and for others it could be scary. Which in either case is bad for the WILD method. If you get too exited, you will find you will not be able to enter a dream and you will remain awake. If you get exited adenaline will enter your system and keep you awake, so remember to stay calm. And also if you are scared from the sleep paralysis or sounds you experience you can always wake yourself up. Just focus and slowly try moving your body. If you are in sleep paralysis don’t panic, it will take a minute or two. Just keep trying to move arms and legs and soon enough they will pop back to life and you can get a drink or something to calm you down. If you decide to try it again, it will get easier, you may expierience something different next time, if you keep getting scared you have to remember that you are in your bed. There is no point being scared because it is all in your head and eventually you will be able to over come it.
After you body has fallen asleep, which this process can take a long time.. up to 90 minutes and sometimes longer for beginners (this can be mastered for much quicker times but dont expect too much too fast). You many find imagery getting more vivid in your eyes and eventually will see the dreamworld forming around you. This dream world will be faint and you should try to move your dream body. Imagine your dream body rolling into the dream or sinking through the bed. Or try raising your dream arms and get up out of bed into your dream. Just keep visualising your self getting up into the dream and eventually you will enter. It may just come as a quick sudden rush where suddenly you are in the dream world or just rise gradually as the dream world appears.
Now you are in your dream and you are lucid and conscience, do a couple of reality checks. Now make sure you have control of the dream and then do whatever you want to entertain yourself. Summon up a moterbike, and ride around at insane speeds. Jump into a puddle and see if you can find the underwater kingdom of the puddle people. Try ideas like this and you will be surprised at the results to find a massive underwater kingdom you can actually explore with dream characters that would probably be fun to interact with also. Experiment with anything and everthing you can and most of all have fun.
